Embedded Box PCs
- 3D Model within 5 days
- Functional Prototype within 5 weeks
- Fully tested and certified products within 5 weeks
Starting from the smallest dimensions of 40 x 200 x 200 mm
(H x W x D), OEMs can use the “form follows function”
principle to configure their individual
Embedded Box PCs
with respect to size, system components and feature set in
order to meet their application-specific requirements. From
the outset, the flexible assembly and interface concept
have been designed to meet the different configuration
requirements of complete OEM solutions. This significantly
reduces initial development costs.
Box PCs are used in the
automation, POS/POI, medical, security, transportation and
gaming sectors.
Full Custom Designs at COTS
Prices Box PCs as OEMs need them
With the Concept Box, Kontron offers a new
box PC which combines
the variability of a fully custom design with the time-to-market
and cost of COTS solutions (Commercial Off-The-Shelf).
In contrast with embedded computer systems, which fit in
19" cabinets, such as 19" industrial servers or modular system
solutions based on
CompactPCI,
ATCA, and
MicroTCA, the
market in smaller
embedded box PCs, used in innumerable
industry applications such as automation, medical, POS/POI,
electronic signage, gaming, security, and transportation, are not
at all standardized in either dimensions or mounting format. In
addition, the application areas of box PCs are much too diverse
and particularly the requirements for housing dimensions and
features sets are much too variable.
So there is a need for a transparent, modular concept in the box
PC arena which can offer the flexibility of a custom design with
the costs and time-to-market of COTS components. Kontron hopes
the concept box will meet that need.
No later than 5 days after sending a specification, the customer is
presented with a 3D model, based on which the system design is
approved in detail. Within only 5 weeks after completion of the
3D model, the first functional prototypes are available, and a mere
5 weeks after that, fully tested and certified products become
accessible.
So with the Concept Box, Kontron is building on the need of OEMs
for dedicated systems with minimum development time in order
to finally achieve a significant advantage in terms of time-to market
when compared with full custom engineering.
The advantage to the OEM is the fact that the most important
components, like the mini-ITX motherboard, as well as the
housing and the complete custom system configuration based
on standard components all come from the same source, ensuring
availability of identical configurations over a longer period of
time and thus guaranteeing the best possible reliability for
embedded box PC designs.
Premium Services for OEM customers
Kontron‘s Concept Box is thus a premium strategy offering OEM
customers the best possible solutions in terms of technological
design and service. These services will support OEM customers
from development to EOL management, and the use of standard
components means that no costly custom development is needed.
And thanks to the electronics fabrication in Malaysia, Kontron
is a leader when it comes to cost. In all, the customer receives
premium products at a standard price.
Industrial Fanless Box PCs
Kontron’s industrial
fanless Box PCs can be used for a large
variety of applications e.g. in fieldbus environments, as system
controllers, for process control, as industrial firewalls or other
embedded applications. The JRex-IBOX, the V Box and the V Box
Express II are specifically designed for use within factories and
other harsh industrial environments.
With fieldbuses or Industrial I/Os, you can realize all requirements
to control your machine. The fanless and low power systems operate between 0° and 50°C. With their passive, conductive
cooling concepts, the industrial fanless Box PCs are developed for
permanent operation without maintenance. You can wall mount
any of these systems or you can even snap a JRex-IBOX onto a
DIN rail. Thanks to their compact design, you will find space to
mount them nearly anywhere. Their support for embedded operating systems make Kontron´s
industrial fanless Box PCs real embedded systems.
Light Industrial Box PCs
Kontron's KIM wall mount / Table Top Box PCs can be used for
various applications including Medical, Gaming, Process Control,
and in Embedded Applications. The KIM Box PC is specifically
designed for use within light industrial environments. Supporting
up to the Intel® Core™2 Duo processors expands the limits
of performance, while high speed graphics enable precise 3D pictures and brilliant view. Due to the huge amount of on board
I/Os like 3x LAN, 6x USB, 4x COM, KIM enables connectivity for
most applications. The long term availability, easy maintenance,
and serviceability protect your investment and since KIM is
based on Kontron’s Mini ITX-Board, it offers flexible and scalable
configurations.
Industrial Box PCs
Industry Capability and High Performance with Compact Designs
Kontron’s V Box Express is a powerful and robust
industrial box
PC, designed especially for rugged use in close proximity to
machinery. RoHS-compliant, equipped with a scalable ETXexpress
module and high-performance processors up to Intel® Pentium®
M 2.0 GHz or with the new Intel® Core2 Duo™, the new V Box
Express is optimally equipped for every task in measurement, controls, operation and visualization. With small dimensions of
(HxWxD) 270x145x218 mm, the compact box PC is used primarily
where little space is available, such as in enclosures, consoles,
or directly on machines. The high electromagnetic compatibility
and the resistance to shock and vibration make the system ideal
for use in robust environments.
