The rugged data server platform is ideally suited for
recording of radar, sonar, or video data in harsh environments,
where high volume mass storage and data integrity is requested.

High performance RAID controller for data integrity
The 19" 3U system chassis is equipped with a high perfor-mance RAID controller module. Numerous data scalability and recovery functions are supported by the RAID levels 0,1,5,0+1,50 or JBOD (just a bunch of disks). Furthermore, a hot spare disk can be provided, for automated use during runtime in case necessary. Any standard SATA I and SATA II disk drive can be used, but extended duty (24/7) drives or Solid State Disks are mostly requested to achieve high reliability.

Several kind of powerful utilities handle events of disk defects during runtime and take care that the storage of data can proceed in a safe way. Additional utilities make the disk status transparent, for optimized maintenance planning.

The utilities can be selected on the user’s choice to run stand alone at the RAID controller:

For the user’s application running in the system controller, the RAID set simply appears as an ordinary SATA storage interface.

Ready-to-run base platform
The processor Intel® Celeron®M with 1.06GHz and 512 MB RAM, or, alternatively, Intel® Atom with 1.6 GHz with 1 GB RAM, provides maximum performance at minimum power consumption. It comes with a CompactFlash card with a preinstalled ready-to-run Linux or Windows image. Platform variants of eight and of four disks are available, leaving one respectively four free slots for custom options. A power management module option enables power up or shut down via LAN, and monitoring of operating temperatures.

State of the art wireless communication
Market-available modules for WiFi, UMTS, GSM, GPRS, GPS, or LTE can optionally be integrated: A data transfer, or the exact position of the observing train, vehicle, or boat, may be requested when a certain observation is made.

Open for additional options
The platforms can be provided with conformal coating as option, especially for EN50155 compliancy and deployment in trains. The platforms can be tailored to specific customer requirements, e.g. specify another controller for increased performance.

OBSERVO, best choice hardware for system integrators
OBSERVO is the central hardware unit, made for system integrators, who provide complete solutions for surveillance data recording: By integrating the application software, devices like cameras or radar equipment, and intelligent displays (HMI) for life observation or data analysis.
HMIs may be selected out of Kontron’s wide portfolio for industrial and harsh environment. To connect the devices, a network switch may be used stand-alone, or comes along as integrated part of OBSERVO.
